Our driveway!

Blocked roadway.

Everything is so pretty covered in snow.

How could a fireplace be so inefficient?? Nice to get up next to at night though.

love our propane camp stove in times like these!

Keeping warm with hot teas and lots of wool.

Well it seems our winter isn’t over yet. On Monday night we looked out to discover it was snowing. It wasn’t long later that the power went out. By midnight, we ventured out into the yard and discovered an unrecognizable landscape, with all the plants and trees heavily weighted with snow. We shook rhododendrons, low tree branches, and as many kale plants as we could, free from snow, until our hands were too cold to move. Every few minutes we heard loud cracks and heavy thumps as limbs broke from trees. The next morning we discovered our driveway was blocked with broken branches and the road up the way was also blocked. The more we looked, the more we found, and it seemed that almost everything experienced some kind of breakage.

We are still without power, and might be for days. The power company is predicting the possibility of 5-7 days, for us living outside of city limits, due to the overwhelming number of power lines that are down. On our drive into town, we saw numerous lines broken and sagging, and trees broken everywhere. This makes the wind storm we had back in January seem like no big deal. It is a bit sad to see how much damage to trees and old rhodies there has been.

P.S. I really enjoyed your responses to my last post. I always love to hear from you! Some of you even had me laughing. I will say, I have done a little bit of mooing in the last day or so, haha… this power outage has been a bit of blessing and curse. I am appreciating the extra time to relax, work outside and hang out with my guy and talk uninterrupted and without distraction. We are usually so so busy with work. It is simultaneously a real challenge to be unable to get any sewing done! It is true, that I may be a bit of a workaholic, and there is so much work to be done.

Be back when I can. The cafe is closing and it’s time to go!

    Hi Abby!
I thought of you and wondered if you guys were without electricity also. We got ours back on Friday afternoon.
We are workaholics too so I know what you mean!

    Love, Taryn

I was astounded to read this, Abby! We had a freak snowstorm in New Jersey on October 29 and exactly the same things happened — tree limbs falling everywhere (we lost so many trees). Lots of people had no power for over a week (including some of our neighbors!). Glad to know you are ok and that you now have your power back! Mother Nature seems out of sync.

That’s amazing, Kristina. October is so early for such a storm (and March so late!). Yes, so out of synch. It’s a little concerning. Thanks for your concern, and it always great to hear from you.
