giveaway: simple skin care with taproot farms

This giveaway is closed. Congrats to Deni!

My skin care regime has always been minimal and simple, and I like to keep it that way. I steer clear of ingredients I can’t understand and when I can, I tend toward products that I could even safely eat. It’s not that I will actually be eating them, but it all ultimately ends up in my body, and it doesn’t make sense to load up with ingredients that create a burden on my system.

As I get older I have been turning my focus a little more toward nourishing my skin, and giving special care to areas that have taken the brunt of excess sun exposure throughout my life. While figuring out what my skin really needs, I was lucky to come in contact with Hannah Wilder of Taproot Farms, Co and have since had the opportunity to try some of their skin care products.

For cleansing, I love their goat milk soap. Our favorites are the peppermint and eucalyptus, both of which create a refreshing, aroma-therapeutic pick me up. This soap makes the creamiest lather, and I am sure it’s the goat milk base! Goat milk is highly nutritional, and provides supportive vitamins and minerals to the skin. This bar feels luxurious and nourishing, and leaves my skin feeling soft and relaxed, rather than tight and dry after washing.

taproot_1For moisture, I’ve been using their pure argan oil on more delicate skin like the collar bone and chest area. It’s a lightweight yet nourishing oil, and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling behind. It also makes a nice, lightweight moisture for the lips, and a softener for the hair – to tame frizzies and moisturize dry ends. Taproot also makes a lip balm for more intensive lip moisture. The tingly peppermint is awesome.taproot_3

The lavender shea butter has become my current favorite for deeper moisturizing. It’s super creamy and rich, and the lavender scent is really over the top! I rub shea butter into my hands when they are particularly dry, use it to moisturize my cuticles, and it is a real treat for dry feet, after a deep cleanse and exfoliation – like a natural home pedicure. Sometimes I also use this as a solid essential oil perfume, the scent is just so robust. When we went camping in the desert this summer, this was the only moisturizer I brought with me. It turned out to be the perfect thing, and was easy to pack with no worries of spillage.

This is awesome. I’m always trying to find new products, especially – like you said – with ingredients that I recognize and can pronounce. πŸ™‚
Thanks for the hosting the giveaway and for introducing me to a new company.

I’ve never heard about them before, so yes, thank for introducing them! I usually buy natural products from indie sellers on Etsy, but I’m always happy to discover new brands πŸ™‚
I really would like to try some of their products!

What a wonderful giveaway. I live in Scotland, so maybe that is too far for them to ship, but if not, I’d love the chance to win. Their products seem lovely, and I am happy to discover them, as at this time of year I am always looking for good things to send to family in Canada. Thanks!

Ever since I became a self-proclaimed hippie this year, I’ve been on a mission to find new products to replace the chemically-laden junk I used to love. Taproot farms sounds like the answer! I would love to try out the lipbalm, especially.

I have the same philosophy on skincare as you! The goat’s milk soap sounds so lovely and gentle. I’d love for my husband to try it, as he’s usually uses whatever bar soap is available to wash his face.

  8. Denise

wow, Abby this is fabulous – thank you for sharing!! I’m going to give their products a try – so reasonably priced too! May I ask if you use sun screen? After my skin cancer this last summer I need to be so much more careful with my sun exposure so have been buying products with built in SPF.

    • abby

Hey Denise! No I don’t use sunscreen. I have never found a sunscreen that I feel comfortable putting on my skin. Too many minerals and chemicals. And I have read so much conflicting information about whether it really does any more help than harm. For me, it feels best to protect myself with a sun hat and light clothing. Sun is healing and necessary in moderation, so I just try to be mindful of that and take care not to get overexposed. I hope you found yourself a sun hat you like. That was a real life changer for me!

      • Denise

oh, I so agree with you….the sun is so healing especially living where we do! I use Orgins products now; however, I like to support small business when I can. And, yes – my hat is essential!

Hi! All their products seem so yummy!
I’m only using natural skincare too, mostly sheabutter, coconut oil and jojoba oil. And I mix them myself with essential oils from Primavera.
If this giveaway is open to international readers, I’m in πŸ™‚
By the way: I love the things you make and your blog – especially posts about your garden.
