I’ve been feeling rather sensitive lately, about the way people seem to have forgotten that the earth is alive. The earth is a living organism. Hacking, maiming, burning, gouging, drilling, suffocating, poisoning, polluting, stealing and stealing and stealing… with no return… these are not ways to treat a living organism. The earth sustains us, makes it possible for our very existence here. It is irreplaceable.
I won’t stop trying to be as gentle as a flower, but it’s not helping matters, and for me that’s tough.

Abby….thank you. you see it. and feel it. many do not. I think back to the simple message from the movie ‘Avatar’……

Aw honey. I know. It’s hard to live with. Someday I hope to make a difference beyond the personal. But it can feel like a physical hurt to think about it. I’m currently reading “The Sacred Balance” by David Suzuki. Have you read this?

I can relate. š

oh my friend, I know the feeling, and I know it hurts. To see how men have been treating our planet is a disgusting sight to see. So much waste & destruction, with no way of getting back what was ruined, it breaks my heart into pieces. And witnessing people stealing other people’s lives leaves me with just as much sadness & sorrow. But we must carry on, it’s hard, it’s heartbreaking, but it’s necessary. We must live the change. For us, for our children, for the people who will be living on this planet after we’ll have gone back to dust. You are one of these persons who make of this world a much better place, and you really have to be aware of that.
Sending you all my love & my most positive thoughts. oxoxo

I always remember, and remind myself, a quote by quite an interesting woman.
“Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can make a difference. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has”.
Margaret Mead.
Sometimes it does feel like you’re constantly banging your head against a wall. Here, where I live, a new state government has just (yesterday) been elected in. I’m scared for the possibilities of what this right-wing government will do (not to say that the slightly less right-wing government who was in power before was any better!). Each time I continue to vote ‘green’, even though I know they will never gain the majority.
We must not stop to cherish our planet, our Mother Earth. Yet also to educate those around us – to make a change, sometimes it seems to be ever so slowly. I believe that if we can raise our children in the best possible manner, this in itself is a good and important thing. To give them a complete love for our Earth.
I so enjoy hearing your thoughts, seeing your photos from your beautiful part of the world. Thank you. xx

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been weighed down by the same thoughts. It’s so hard to look at what is happening and not feel disheartened. But we do need to carry on with our gentle ways.

Abby, I feel the pain and frustration too. So sad how people just continue to be wasteful and destructive. I remember being so devastated when the oil was spewing out of the Gulf last year about this time. It took the wind from my sails for a while. Nancy had identified these feelings as eco-grief. Some of us experience this during times of catastrophe or just because of our sensitivities to what is happening to our dear Mother Earth. Hang in there Abby and keep your chin up. You do make a difference every day! Mother Earth is so grateful of you.
your friend,
Amber

I so agree with you. I just wish everyone had respect for the earth, it makes me so sad too.

The saddest part to me is how a select few seem to have the power to make decisions that effect everyone. I would like to think that our individual choices have impact– and they do on a small scale. But there seems to be certain individuals who make bad decisions that effect us all on a much greater scale. Doesn’t seem fair…

It’s a long time later here, but I just wanted to thank you all for your thoughts. I really appreciate it. This is a tough one for me – something I think about many times daily. It helps to know that I’m not alone in this, and yet the magnitude of the problem seems beyond our repair at the rate we are going on this planet – as a human society. So much focus on such silly things as war and money and fashion and politics and and and the things of things. It’s all so petty when you boil it down to life. Life as in living things. How did we humans get so lost…
Thanks for being there and thanks for sharing with me in this.
